Crowdsourcing approach takes off after the pandemic
After just under a year, Movacar’s promising start was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Initially, the demand for hire cars collapsed completely, and when it slowly increased again with the easing of measures, there was a lack of available vehicles due to disrupted supply chains.
However, Movacar’s crowdsourcing idea picked up speed again in the course of 2022. The number of registered users increased month by month and the relaunch of the Movacar app in summer 2023 gave the young company a further boost. Movacar was particularly successful in the camper van transfer segment.
The principle: rental companies such as Roadsurfer use the Movacar Crowd to optimally distribute their motorhomes across their branch network throughout Europe, while spontaneous travellers can criss-cross the continent virtually free of charge. The smart travel option of the ‘1 Euro Camper’ then also attracted sustained media interest – including from PRO7’s Galileo magazine, “Autobild” and, most recently, “Auto Motor Sport” magazine.
More than 11,000 vehicles moved from A to B so far
‘In total, we have moved over 11,000 vehicles from A to B since the crowd idea was introduced, and all relevant company figures are developing extremely favourably,’ reports Movacar co-founder Karl Markiewicz. However, the two founders did not want to rest on the success of the 1-euro hire cars. After all, the demand for vehicle transfers on their own wheels continues to grow.
Whether for car manufacturers, dealers, fleet operators or mobility providers, the shortage of skilled labour is making it increasingly difficult to carry out vehicle transfers reliably. Moreover, it is not always possible to market short-term journeys to remote destinations to private travellers. In autumn 2023, the Movacar founders therefore launched Movacar PRO, a platform for commercial vehicle transfers.
Commercial platform also launched in autumn 2023
Movacar PRO offers professional drivers numerous added values compared to the competition. The digital handling of all processes via app saves time, and the intelligent route planner allows drivers to seamlessly book follow-up jobs to avoid empty runs and increase their earning potential. Customer care is a particular plus point for transfer clients. Movacar acts as the client to the drivers and guarantees punctual delivery of the vehicles. Movacar has set up a dedicated support team to guarantee delivery reliability in the long term and to provide both drivers and customers with optimum support.
All-round carefree support impresses professional customers
‘The Movacar vehicle transfers are attracting a lot of interest,’ says Mirko Häner, who took over the Business Development division at Movacar a few weeks ago. ‘Many hundreds of drivers are now registered on the platform, thousands of orders have been processed and interest from new clients such as car dealership chains, manufacturers, hire companies and other mobility providers is growing. Our new customers are particularly impressed by the crowd concept and our all-round carefree customer service – in combination an unbeatable deal for affordable and reliable vehicle transfers,’ continues Häner.
