of the partnership with roadsurfer
Most people probably know the town of Marburg, in central Hesse, mainly for its university, founded in 1527. Less well known is that the town on the river Lahn has become a real hotspot for camper van fans in recent years. The reason: roadsurfer, one of Europe's largest camper van rental companies.
Five friends from Marburg founded roadsurfer back in 2016, in Munich, of all places. But ten years later, with a fleet of more than 10,000 vehicles, Marburg still plays a major role for the company: it's roadsurfer's most important logistics hub for bringing camper vans back to Germany from vacation regions once the season ends. In the past, paid drivers mostly handled these return trips. But since the Berlin-based company Movacar started connecting car rental relocation trips with private travelers, these one-way transfers have become an increasingly popular travel hack.

„The Movacar crowd now includes 400,000 people who use relocation trips as city breaks or vacation travel. And Marburg is already the star among these one-way destinations in the fifth year of our partnership. Several hundred vehicles are driven there from all over Europe every season."
Jörg Olvermann
Head of Marketing at Movacar
The success of these one-way trips comes down to price: comfortable camper vans from roadsurfer are available on the Movacar platform for as little as €1. While private drivers travel at a bargain price, roadsurfer saves on relocation costs at the same time — a genuine win-win.
From Paris, Bordeaux, Bilbao, or Madrid to Marburg at a bargain price? It's possible! If you still have a few vacation days left in September or October, it's worth checking the Movacar platform now. If you don't find anything right away, you can set up a route alert to get notified as soon as new deals go live. New offers are published daily well into the winter, often on short notice and gone quickly.
Even travelers who aren't from the Marburg region will find these deals worthwhile. The train ride back to Frankfurt or Kassel takes only about an hour. And if you still have time after dropping off the vehicle, you can experience medieval flair in the historic old town, with its half-timbered houses, around the Gothic Elisabeth Church from the 13th century, and below Marburg Castle — a lovely way to end any camper van trip.
